Tensions Flare as Chinese Military Aircraft and Vessels Enter Taiwan’s ADIZ

June 24, 2025 | Taipei
Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defense (MND) reported a significant incursion by Chinese military forces into Taiwan’s air defense identification zone (ADIZ) early Tuesday morning, further escalating tensions across the Taiwan Strait.
According to the MND, 12 sorties of Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) aircraft and seven People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) vessels were detected operating in areas surrounding Taiwan until 6:00 AM (local time). Notably, 10 out of the 12 aircraft sorties breached the median line of the Taiwan Strait—a symbolic, unofficial boundary—and entered various sectors of Taiwan’s ADIZ, including the northern, southwestern, and southeastern zones.
The Taiwanese military stated that it had closely monitored the activity and responded accordingly. “We have tracked the movements and taken appropriate measures in response to this provocation,” the ministry said in a public statement, reaffirming its commitment to national security.
This latest maneuver adds to a series of aggressive military actions by Beijing, which considers Taiwan a breakaway province, despite the island functioning with its own democratic government. The incursion is likely to draw sharp criticism from the international community and increase diplomatic pressure on China to de-escalate military operations in the region.
Taiwan’s defense authorities remain on high alert as regional stability continues to be tested by these recurring confrontations.
