Kultali, West Bengal | June 2025:
A man has been sentenced to life imprisonment by the Additional District and Sessions Court in Baruipur for the sexual assault of a 14-year-old girl under the false pretense of marriage. The accused, identified as Amar Das, is a resident of Sanke Jahan in the Kultali region of Baruipur Police District.

The incident dates back to 2022 when the minor had left her home following a domestic dispute and was found sitting alone at a railway station. There, she was approached by Amar Das, who engaged her in conversation and lured her with the promise of marriage. Despite being already married, Das brought the minor to his residence and later to other locations, where he repeatedly exploited her.

According to police sources, he also attempted to traffic the minor to an illicit establishment in Kolkata. However, the attempt failed as the girl’s age was discovered, preventing the transaction.

The matter came to light when a local social worker noticed signs of abuse and alerted the Kultali police. A case was registered on May 1, 2022, and the investigation was led by Sub-Inspector Shubhamoy Das. The girl was promptly rescued, and Amar Das was arrested. The charge sheet was submitted without delay, and the case proceeded to trial.

Recently, the court pronounced its verdict, sentencing Amar Das to life imprisonment and imposing a fine of ₹50,000. The judgment has been welcomed by rights activists, who emphasized the importance of swift legal action in cases involving crimes against children.

Authorities have reiterated the need for increased community awareness and the protection of minors from all forms of exploitation.
