June 29, 2025 – Tech entrepreneur Elon Musk has voiced fierce opposition to a newly proposed Senate draft bill, warning that its provisions could have devastating consequences for the U.S. economy and its future industries. In a strongly worded pinned post on X (formerly Twitter), Musk declared that the bill “will destroy millions of jobs in America and cause immense strategic harm to our country!”

Describing the legislation as “utterly insane and destructive,” Musk criticized it for supporting outdated sectors while undermining the industries that represent the future. He argued that the bill appears designed to give financial advantages to legacy industries at the expense of emerging clean energy technologies.

The remarks were made in response to a detailed thread by energy expert Jesse D. Jenkins, who explained that the bill would increase taxes on all wind and solar energy projects that haven’t begun construction before today. These projects would then be required to be in service by the end of 2027 and comply with new, complex regulations — criteria Jenkins called “likely unworkable.”

As the head of companies like Tesla and Tesla Energy (formerly SolarCity), Musk has long championed renewable energy innovation. He sees the bill as a significant step backward that could cripple investments in green technology and threaten thousands of jobs in the renewable sector.

Musk’s criticism reflects growing concern among tech and energy leaders that the proposed legislation may stifle innovation and derail progress toward a more sustainable energy future.
