Trump Hails Productive Alaska Talks, Pushes for Full Peace Deal Between Russia and Ukraine

Alaska, August 17, 2025 — U.S. President Donald Trump described his recent summit in Alaska with Russian President Vladimir Putin as a “great and very successful day,” highlighting progress toward ending the ongoing war in Ukraine.
According to Trump, the discussions not only involved direct talks with Putin but also extended into late-night calls with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and several European leaders, including NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg. The central outcome, he stressed, was a shared understanding that the path forward should be a comprehensive peace agreement, not just a temporary ceasefire.
“A ceasefire may collapse at any moment,” Trump said, emphasizing that only a full peace deal could bring lasting stability. He suggested that such an agreement could save millions of lives by halting the devastating conflict that has gripped Eastern Europe since Russia’s invasion in 2022.
Trump also confirmed that President Zelenskyy is scheduled to visit Washington on Monday, where talks will continue at the White House. Should the dialogue prove successful, Trump indicated a follow-up meeting with Putin could be arranged in Washington as the next step toward solidifying peace efforts.
By framing the negotiations as a pivotal turning point, Trump positioned himself as a central mediator in one of the world’s most critical geopolitical crises. His administration now faces the delicate task of turning these promising discussions into a durable resolution.
