Chinese FM Wang Yi Calls for Stronger China-India Cooperation Amid Global Uncertainty

Beijing, August 2025 — Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has emphasized the urgent need for closer cooperation between China and India, highlighting their critical role in shaping the future of global order. Speaking as the United Nations approaches its 80th anniversary, Wang noted that the world is witnessing “changes unseen in a century,” with unilateralism, protectionist measures, and challenges to free trade putting immense pressure on the international system.
Wang stressed that China and India, as the world’s two largest developing nations with a combined population exceeding 2.8 billion, must shoulder greater global responsibility. He urged both nations to act as pillars of stability, demonstrating unity and leadership among developing countries while advancing multipolarity and democratization in international relations.
“The two great Eastern civilizations should remain confident, move in the same direction, and expand cooperation,” Wang said, calling for the removal of “disturbances” in bilateral ties. According to him, mutual trust and collaboration would not only enhance China-India relations but also provide much-needed certainty and stability to Asia and the wider world.
The Chinese foreign minister underlined that the revitalization of China and India could serve as a model of shared success, strengthening regional development and global progress. His remarks come at a time when both countries face geopolitical challenges and shifting international dynamics, underscoring the importance of collaboration over confrontation.
Observers note that while China-India ties have faced strain in recent years, Beijing’s latest statements reflect an effort to stabilize relations and build common ground. Whether the two Asian giants can overcome differences to realize this vision, however, remains a key question for the region’s future.
