Kuwait Advances Financial Reforms as Government Targets More Sustainable Economic Growth
KUWAIT CITY — Kuwait is pressing ahead with a broad programme of financial and administrative reforms as the government seeks to strengthen economic sustainability and improve the country’s long-term competitiveness.

The government has been reviewing the country’s financial position and the implementation of ministry and government-agency budgets as part of its wider effort to improve public-sector financial management.
Officials have highlighted the importance of maintaining economic resilience while creating conditions for stronger growth over the medium and long term.
The reform programme includes efforts to improve government spending, strengthen financial planning and increase the efficiency of public institutions.
Kuwait is also moving toward further development of its financial markets. The government has approved measures connected with media legislation and a proposed legal framework for sovereign sukuk, supporting the country’s broader financial-development agenda.
The country’s central bank is simultaneously promoting innovation within the financial sector. Its Innovation Hub has launched a Strategic Initiative Accelerator Program, designed to support Kuwaiti talent and develop new ideas for the banking and financial-services industry.
Cybersecurity remains another priority for Kuwait’s financial authorities. The Central Bank has continued programmes aimed at developing national expertise and strengthening the banking sector’s ability to respond to technology-related risks.
The government is also working to make public administration more efficient. Discussions have included reviewing government bodies to identify possible overlaps and opportunities to streamline administrative structures and expenditure.
Kuwait’s economic strategy places particular importance on diversifying activity beyond traditional oil revenues. Investment, financial services, industry, infrastructure and technology are expected to play increasingly important roles in future economic development.
The government has also been pursuing its national industrial strategy, with authorities directed to accelerate implementation and strengthen the country’s industrial base.
Taken together, the measures indicate a broader effort to modernise Kuwait’s economic system while protecting financial stability.
The reforms could become increasingly important as Kuwait seeks to attract investment, encourage private-sector participation and create a more diversified economy capable of generating sustainable growth over the coming years.
