The memorandum of understanding, announced by the Saudi Press Agency on 6 September 2026, focuses on exploring ways to develop national leadership capabilities in data protection and related professional areas.

The initiative reflects the growing importance of data governance as organisations increasingly depend on digital platforms and information systems. Protecting sensitive information has become a major priority for both public institutions and businesses as digital services continue to expand.

Under the proposed cooperation, the two organisations will examine opportunities to strengthen expertise and leadership skills in data protection. Such cooperation could help develop a stronger pool of professionals capable of addressing the technical, regulatory and organisational challenges associated with safeguarding information.

Saudi Arabia has been investing heavily in digital transformation, making data security and responsible information management increasingly important components of its technology agenda.

The latest agreement also highlights the role of partnerships between national technology organisations and international professional-services firms in developing specialised expertise. By combining local knowledge with international experience, such initiatives can contribute to building stronger capabilities within the country’s rapidly expanding digital economy.

The announcement comes as data protection continues to emerge as a central issue for governments and companies worldwide, particularly as artificial intelligence, cloud computing and interconnected digital services become more widespread.
