🇮🇳 India and Germany Set to Deepen Climate Cooperation at New Delhi Environment Forum
New Delhi, September 1, 2026: India and Germany are preparing to bring their environmental partnership into sharper focus as senior officials from both countries meet in New Delhi for the fourth Indo-German Environment Forum.
India’s Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Bhupender Yadav and Germany’s Environment Minister Carsten Schneider are scheduled to co-chair the forum, which carries the theme “Together For More Resilience.” The meeting is designed to strengthen cooperation on environmental protection, climate policy and sustainable development.
Focus on Practical Climate Solutions
The forum will provide a platform for policymakers, businesses, researchers, industry representatives and other stakeholders from both countries to exchange ideas and identify areas where cooperation can produce practical results.
Discussions will cover several major environmental priorities, including low-carbon industries, biodiversity protection, circular economy models and sustainable finance.
Biodiversity and Resource Efficiency on the Agenda
A major part of the programme will focus on protecting ecosystems such as wetlands, mountains and forests. The two sides are also expected to examine ways to make better use of resources and expand circular-economy practices that can reduce waste while supporting economic activity.
Green skills and investment in sustainable technologies are another important component of the forum, reflecting the growing connection between environmental policy, industrial development and economic opportunities.
Bilateral Cooperation Enters a New Phase
The Indo-German Environment Forum has operated since 2008 and serves as the highest-level bilateral platform between India and Germany dedicated specifically to environmental policy.
Ahead of the fourth edition, three joint working groups dealing with climate change, biodiversity and the circular economy met during the year to review progress and identify areas of mutual interest.
Growing Economic Ties Add Importance
The environmental discussions are taking place against the backdrop of expanding economic and industrial relations between India and Germany.
Both countries have an interest in developing cleaner technologies and strengthening the green economy. Cooperation in areas such as sustainable industry, climate-friendly investment and resource efficiency could therefore connect environmental objectives with long-term economic growth.
