Ukrainian Chief of Staff Calls for New Global Security System to Prevent Future Aggression
On Monday, Andriy Yermak, the chief of staff to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, called for the establishment of a new international security framework aimed at preventing future instances of armed aggression. Speaking at an online conference dedicated to securing peace in the wake of Russia’s invasion, Yermak emphasized the need for a robust system to address potential escalations and conflicts.
The conference, which saw participation from 66 countries and international organizations, was focused on a specific point of Zelenskiy’s peace plan. This plan seeks to bring an end to the ongoing war between Ukraine and Russia, which has now lasted for over two and a half years. Discussions during the event centered on the challenges of maintaining peace and preventing future military confrontations.
Yermak stressed the importance of creating mechanisms that can effectively respond to, and even preempt, future acts of aggression from any nation. The proposed international security system would serve as a safeguard, ensuring that conflicts like the current one in Ukraine can be avoided in the future.
The call for such a system comes as Ukraine continues to seek international support in its fight against Russian aggression, while also working toward long-term peace and security in the region. As the war drags on, the focus is shifting from immediate military responses to establishing lasting frameworks that can prevent similar conflicts from erupting again.
