Flight Disruptions in Northern India Amid Cross-Border Tensions; Airlines Issue Travel Advisories
New Delhi, May 7, 2025 — In the wake of heightened military tensions between India and Pakistan, Indian airlines have begun issuing urgent travel advisories for air passengers across northern India. Following the Indian Army’s recent precision strikes targeting terror bases in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, multiple northern airports have suspended operations temporarily.
SpiceJet Airlines was among the first to respond, releasing an official advisory on Wednesday through social media platform X. The airline announced that airports in Dharamshala, Leh, Jammu, Srinagar, and Amritsar would remain shut until further notice. The advisory also warned of potential disruptions to scheduled departures, arrivals, and connecting flights.
Passengers traveling to or from these regions are urged to verify their flight status in advance and make alternate travel arrangements where necessary. “Due to current circumstances, flight operations in northern India may be significantly affected. Please plan your journeys accordingly,” SpiceJet stated in its post.
Following suit, IndiGo Airlines also published a similar advisory, cautioning travelers about delays and cancellations affecting operations to and from Srinagar, Jammu, Leh, Amritsar, Chandigarh, and Dharamshala. The airline recommended that travelers remain alert to updates and check the airline’s official communication channels before heading to the airport.
These advisories come amid increasing cross-border tensions that have raised security alerts across northern India. While there has been no official timeline shared for the resumption of flight operations at the affected airports, both airlines have assured they are monitoring the situation closely and will issue updates as necessary.
Authorities have reiterated that the measures are purely precautionary to ensure the safety of passengers and airline crew amidst the evolving geopolitical situation.
