The arrest was carried out by officers from the Northern Greece Organized Crime Subdivision during the morning of September 1. Greek authorities announced the case in an official statement on September 2.

Police allege that the man was in possession of weapons and ammunition. Officers reportedly recovered a pistol magazine containing a cartridge, dozens of additional cartridges, two shotgun cartridges and a metal dagger with its sheath.

Two mobile phones were also reportedly seized during the police operation.

Authorities said their investigation identified the suspect as someone who allegedly holds the criminal-world title “Vor V Zakone,” also known as “Thief in Law.” Greek police describe this title as one associated with senior figures in Russian-speaking organized crime.

Police further stated that the man had previously faced allegations in Germany involving participation in a criminal organization.

The latest arrest is now being handled as a weapons-law case. Investigators are expected to examine the seized items, communications and other evidence to determine whether the suspect may have connections with organized criminal activity beyond the weapons allegations.

The suspect is due to be brought before the competent prosecutor as the judicial process gets underway.

Authorities have not announced a conviction, and the allegations against the man remain subject to examination by the Greek justice system.

The case has attracted attention because of the suspect’s alleged connection to the “Thief in Law” criminal title and the discovery of ammunition and other weapons-related items.

Greek organized-crime investigators are continuing their inquiries to establish the full circumstances surrounding the case
