Boudh, Odisha, September 27, 2026:
International Tourism Day was observed at Yogindra Dev High School in Boudh district on Sunday with a district-level programme aimed at creating awareness among students about tourism, heritage, history and the rich cultural identity of the region. The event brought together education officials, tourism representatives, teachers and students for a programme that combined an awareness meeting with an engaging quiz competition.

The programme was organised to highlight the importance of tourism in the development of the district and to encourage young people to learn more about the places, traditions and cultural heritage associated with Boudh. The participation of students from different schools added an educational dimension to the observance and provided them with an opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge of tourism and local culture.
The district-level programme was presided over by District Tourism Officer Prabhakar Kanhar. District Information and Public Relations Officer Bidyapati Panda attended the event as the chief guest. Additional District Education Officer Chudamani Barik and District Physical Education Officer Ananda Kumar Behera were present as guests of honour.
Focus on Tourism, Heritage and Culture
Speaking on the significance of the programme, the organisers emphasised the need to introduce students to the tourism potential of their own district. Boudh has a distinctive cultural identity, with its historical places, religious traditions, natural surroundings and community heritage forming an important part of the district’s appeal.
The programme sought to make students more familiar with these aspects and encourage them to view tourism not merely as travel but as a means of understanding history, culture and local traditions. Awareness among young people can also contribute to greater appreciation of heritage and encourage communities to participate in preserving culturally important places.
The observance also provided an opportunity to underline the role of tourism in supporting local economic activity. Tourism can create opportunities for transport services, hospitality, handicrafts, local food, guides and other community-based activities. Developing awareness at the school level can therefore help students understand the broader social and economic relevance of tourism.
Quiz Competition Becomes Major Attraction
A quiz competition was organised as a central activity of the International Tourism Day programme. The competition focused on subjects connected with tourism, heritage and culture, giving students an opportunity to test their knowledge in an interactive environment.
To ensure participation from students of different age groups, the quiz was divided into two categories. Students studying in Classes VI to X competed in the junior category, while students of Classes XI and XII participated in the senior category.
More than 50 students from schools across Boudh district took part in the competition. Their participation reflected the interest among students in learning about tourism-related subjects and the cultural heritage of their district.
The quiz format also gave students an opportunity to learn beyond the regular classroom curriculum. Questions related to tourism, historical heritage and cultural traditions can help young learners develop a broader understanding of their surroundings while encouraging curiosity about the history and identity of their region.
Successful Participants Felicitated
Students who performed successfully in the quiz competition were felicitated during the programme. The guests presented cash prizes to the successful participants in recognition of their performance.
The prize distribution served as encouragement for students to take greater interest in subjects connected with tourism, heritage and culture. Such recognition can also motivate students to participate in similar educational and cultural activities in the future.
For the participating students, the competition offered both an opportunity to compete and a platform to increase their awareness of the district’s tourism resources. The organisers also used the occasion to reinforce the message that young people can play an important role in promoting awareness about local heritage.
Coordination by Education Officials
The quiz competition was coordinated by NAC CRCC Satyanarayan Sahu and Radhanagar CRCC Prashant Sahu. Their coordination helped organise the competition for students representing different schools.
Satyanarayan Sahu also conducted the proceedings of the programme. The event brought together officials and education representatives in a common effort to connect tourism awareness with school education.
The involvement of education officials was significant because schools provide an effective platform for introducing younger generations to local history and cultural traditions. Through quizzes, discussions and awareness programmes, students can develop an understanding of the importance of protecting and promoting heritage.
Promoting Boudh as a Tourism Destination
Boudh district has several aspects that can contribute to its tourism identity. Its historical background, religious heritage, traditional culture and natural environment offer opportunities for visitors interested in exploring Odisha beyond major tourist centres.
Creating awareness about these resources among local students can help develop a stronger sense of connection with the district. Students who understand the value of their local heritage can become informed ambassadors of their region and help spread awareness about its attractions.
The International Tourism Day programme therefore went beyond a formal observance. It provided a platform for students to learn about the importance of tourism while connecting the subject with the heritage and cultural traditions of their own district.
Encouraging Youth Participation
The organisers placed particular emphasis on involving students in the celebration. Young people represent an important section of society in creating awareness about tourism and cultural preservation. Their knowledge and participation can help build interest in local destinations and traditions.
The quiz competition was especially useful in making the programme interactive. Instead of limiting the observance to speeches and formal activities, the organisers encouraged students to actively participate and demonstrate their knowledge.
Such programmes can also encourage students to explore the history of their communities, understand traditional practices and learn about places of cultural importance. Increased awareness among young people may contribute to greater appreciation for heritage conservation in the long term.
A Meaningful District-Level Observance
The International Tourism Day observance at Yogindra Dev High School brought together education and tourism awareness through a combination of a formal meeting, student participation and a knowledge-based competition.
The presence of senior district officials, education representatives, teachers and students gave the programme a broad institutional character. The participation of more than 50 students from different schools further strengthened the district-wide nature of the event.
By combining education with awareness and competition, the programme sought to make tourism a subject of interest for students while highlighting the importance of Boudh’s cultural and historical identity.
The event concluded with recognition of the successful quiz participants and an emphasis on the need to continue encouraging students to learn about tourism, heritage and culture. The organisers expressed the broader objective of building awareness among the younger generation and encouraging greater interest in the tourism potential of Boudh district.
Overall, the district-level observance provided students with an educational and engaging platform to explore the importance of tourism. It also highlighted the connection between tourism, cultural heritage, education and local development, reinforcing the idea that awareness among young people can contribute to a stronger appreciation of Boudh’s distinctive heritage and tourism potential.
