Karachi Robbery Turns Fatal as Shopkeeper Is Killed and Two Policemen Are Shot
Karachi, September 7, 2026: A robbery attempt at a shop in Karachi turned deadly on Sunday when an employee was shot and killed after allegedly resisting armed robbers, while two police constables were wounded in a separate encounter with suspected street criminals, according to police.

The shopkeeper, identified as 27-year-old Shehzad Husain, was working at an LPG business near Jamia Masjid Ali in Liaquatabad when two armed men reportedly arrived on a motorcycle shortly before 8 a.m.
Police said the attackers held Husain at gunpoint and demanded his mobile phone and the keys to his motorcycle. When he resisted, one of the suspects allegedly opened fire, striking him in the head.
Husain died at the scene. The attackers reportedly took his motorcycle before abandoning their own motorcycle nearby. Police subsequently seized the abandoned vehicle as part of their investigation and began efforts to identify those responsible.
Later in the day, another violent incident was reported in Surjani Town. Police said a patrol encountered four suspected street criminals travelling on two motorcycles near Chaman Chowk.
According to officials, the suspects opened fire when officers attempted to stop them. Two constables, Imran Shah and Usman, were hit by gunfire and taken to hospital for treatment. The suspects managed to escape from the area.
Police authorities subsequently ordered intensified efforts to locate those responsible for the shooting.
The violence followed another fatal incident involving a police officer in Karachi. Police said 28-year-old Constable Owais Tanoli, who had been wounded during an encounter with suspected criminals in the Korangi area on Saturday, died while receiving treatment on Sunday.
Karachi police chief Azad Khan directed officers to accelerate efforts to arrest the suspects involved in the officer’s death.
The incidents have renewed concerns over armed street crime in Karachi, where police continue to conduct operations against robbery suspects and other criminal groups.
Investigators are examining evidence recovered from the different crime scenes, including the motorcycle abandoned by the attackers in Liaquatabad. Police have said they have obtained clues that could help identify the suspects.
The cases remain under investigation, and no suspect has been convicted in connection with the reported incidents.
