Subarnapur, Odisha, September 28: Residents of Masinapali village under Jalae Gram Panchayat in Ulunda Block of Subarnapur district are facing growing difficulties because of the deteriorating condition of the road connecting the village. The badly damaged stretch has reportedly become particularly troublesome during the rainy season, with several potholes filling with water and creating serious obstacles for pedestrians and vehicles.

The condition of the road has become a major concern for local residents, especially schoolchildren, college students, elderly people and those requiring urgent medical assistance. Villagers say that travelling on the road has become increasingly difficult as large potholes, uneven surfaces and accumulated rainwater have made several portions unsafe.

Water-Filled Potholes Create Daily Problems

Residents said repeated rainfall has worsened the condition of the road. Potholes at different locations have turned into waterlogged patches, making it difficult for people to identify their depth while travelling. The damaged surface has also made the road hazardous for two-wheelers and bicycles.

Students travelling to schools and colleges are reportedly among those facing the greatest inconvenience. They have to negotiate water-filled potholes and broken portions of the road while travelling between their homes and educational institutions. During periods of heavy rainfall, the difficulties are said to increase further.

For elderly residents, walking along the damaged road has become particularly challenging. Villagers fear that people could fall or suffer injuries while attempting to cross the uneven and slippery stretches.

Villagers stated that road construction work estimated at around Rs 10 lakh was undertaken a few months ago. They also alleged that substantial amounts of money had been spent on construction and repair of the road on earlier occasions.
