Ministry of Power Unveils ‘India Energy Stack’ to Digitally Transform the Power Sector
New Delhi, June 28, 2025: In a visionary step toward revolutionizing India’s power landscape, the Ministry of Power has initiated the development of the India Energy Stack (IES) — a comprehensive Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) designed to modernize and unify the country’s energy ecosystem.
As India accelerates towards its goal of becoming a $5 trillion economy and fulfilling its Net Zero commitments, the power sector stands at a critical juncture. While growth in renewables, electric mobility, and consumer-driven energy markets is reshaping the sector, fragmented digital systems continue to hinder efficiency and innovation.
To address these gaps, the IES aims to create an interoperable, secure, and standardized digital framework that will integrate the entire electricity value chain — from generation to consumption.
The India Energy Stack will feature:
Unique digital identifiers for consumers, assets, and energy transactions
Real-time, consent-based data sharing
Open APIs for seamless integration across platforms
Tools for innovation, consumer participation, and market expansion
Power Minister Shri Manohar Lal Khattar emphasized the urgent need for such an infrastructure, stating that the IES will mirror the success of Aadhaar in identity and UPI in digital payments — ushering in a new era of transparent, reliable, and consumer-focused power services.
A 12-month Proof of Concept (PoC) will pilot the Utility Intelligence Platform (UIP) — an analytics-powered application built on IES — with utilities in Mumbai, Gujarat, and Delhi.
A Task Force comprising industry, technology, and regulatory experts will oversee the design, implementation, and scale-up of IES. Deliverables include a White Paper for public consultation and a national roadmap for full-scale deployment.
With IES, India moves closer to a digitally empowered, sustainable energy future.
