MTA Worker Killed by Subway Train Near Yankee Stadium
A transit construction worker was killed after being struck by a subway train near Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, in an incident that has renewed concerns about safety conditions for workers carrying out maintenance and construction work on New York City’s subway system.

The worker, identified as 41-year-old Moet McCullum, had been working as a construction flagger for only about 11 months. Officials said he was struck by a D train on Thursday night.
Construction flaggers play an important role during subway work. They help communicate with train operators and alert workers when trains are approaching areas where maintenance or construction is taking place.
The fatal incident is particularly concerning because it is the second deadly subway incident involving a relatively inexperienced flagger in the city in the past three years. In 2023, another flagger, 57-year-old Hilarion Joseph, was fatally struck by a D train near the 34th Street-Herald Square station after also having worked in the position for less than a year.
The latest death is expected to prompt further attention to training, workplace procedures and the safety measures used to protect employees working close to active subway tracks.
New York City’s subway network operates around the clock, meaning construction and maintenance crews frequently have to work alongside active train service. The nature of the work makes coordination between workers and train operators critical.
The incident near Yankee Stadium also comes as transportation officials continue to face questions about maintaining aging subway infrastructure while keeping passengers and employees safe.
Authorities are expected to examine the circumstances surrounding the collision as part of the investigation. The findings could help determine whether additional safety measures or changes to procedures are necessary for workers assigned to subway construction zones.
For transit employees and their families, the incident is a reminder of the risks faced by workers who help keep one of the world’s largest urban transportation systems operating.
