Pakistan Approves Rs 116 Billion Development Projects Under Uraan Pakistan
Pakistan has approved a new package of development projects with a combined value of Rs 116 billion, marking a significant step in the implementation of the country’s Uraan Pakistan development programme.
The projects were considered by the Central Development Working Party (CDWP) at a meeting chaired by Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal.

The CDWP is an important government forum responsible for examining major development proposals and making recommendations concerning projects included in Pakistan’s public-sector development framework.
The latest meeting focused on projects connected with national development priorities under Uraan Pakistan. The programme is being used by the government as a framework for improving economic performance, strengthening productive capacity and advancing development initiatives.
The approval of the Rs 116 billion project package covers multiple development areas. Government authorities are examining projects through the planning process before they proceed to subsequent stages of approval and implementation.
The meeting also reflects the government’s emphasis on linking public investment with broader national economic priorities. Uraan Pakistan places particular importance on productivity, exports, investment, innovation and improvements in the country’s development infrastructure.
Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal has repeatedly stressed the need for development projects to contribute directly to economic growth and national productivity. The latest CDWP meeting forms part of the government’s continuing review of development proposals under this approach.
The CDWP evaluates projects on the basis of their financial requirements, development objectives and implementation framework. Projects approved or recommended through the process subsequently move through the required government procedures.
The Rs 116 billion figure represents the combined value of projects cleared during the latest CDWP meeting. The decision adds another group of development initiatives to Pakistan’s ongoing public investment programme.
Uraan Pakistan is the government’s broader economic transformation framework, under which authorities are pursuing measures aimed at increasing exports, improving production, attracting investment and strengthening economic competitiveness.
The government has also established national economic missions covering key areas of economic activity. Export acceleration and production enhancement have been identified among the priorities being pursued through the programme.
The latest development approvals come as Pakistan continues to focus on improving the efficiency and impact of public-sector investment. Government planning authorities are seeking to ensure that development expenditure is directed towards projects that support national economic objectives.
The CDWP meeting therefore represents an important stage in the government’s development planning process. The approval of projects worth Rs 116 billion provides a new pipeline of investments for implementation under the country’s development framework.
Further implementation of the approved projects will follow the relevant financial, administrative and technical procedures of the Pakistani government.
The latest decision demonstrates the government’s continued use of Uraan Pakistan as a framework for coordinating development investment and pursuing longer-term economic priorities.
