PM Modi Set to Visit Uzbekistan as India Looks to Deepen Central Asian Partnership
New Delhi, August 28, 2026: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to travel to Uzbekistan on Saturday for a two-day visit aimed at strengthening India’s relationship with the Central Asian nation.
The visit comes as India seeks to expand cooperation with Central Asian countries across trade, connectivity, technology, energy and regional security.
During his stay in Tashkent, Modi is expected to hold delegation-level discussions with Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
Uzbekistan has emerged as an important partner for India in Central Asia, with both countries seeking greater economic and strategic cooperation.
India’s engagement with the region has gained importance because of Central Asia’s geographic position and its links to energy resources, transportation corridors and emerging markets.
The visit is also taking place ahead of India’s broader diplomatic engagements involving the BRICS grouping. India is scheduled to host the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi on September 12 and 13.
Officials are expected to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral ties and expand cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
Connectivity is likely to remain an important element of India’s Central Asia strategy. New trade and transportation links could help improve India’s access to regional markets while supporting stronger commercial exchanges.
The visit also demonstrates New Delhi’s continued focus on building partnerships beyond its immediate neighbourhood.
