Thailand Approves Four Immediate Priorities Focused on Economy, Security and Disaster Protection
Thailand’s Cabinet has approved a package of four immediate priority measures covering economic development, social services, security and disaster management, with the government seeking to accelerate projects in the country’s southern provinces.
The decisions were taken during a mobile Cabinet meeting in Songkhla Province chaired by Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul. The government said the measures are intended to deliver faster improvements to economic activity and people’s quality of life.
Southern economy receives fresh attention
One of the government’s main priorities is accelerating economic development across Thailand’s five southern border provinces.
Authorities plan to focus on agriculture, trade, investment, industry and tourism while removing obstacles that make it difficult for businesses to operate.
The government also plans to expand access to soft loans for local businesses and entrepreneurs. In addition, navigation channels in Songkhla and Pattani will be dredged to improve opportunities for communities and businesses connected with maritime activity.
Hat Yai hospital project to be accelerated
The Cabinet has also instructed authorities to speed up construction of the second Hat Yai hospital.
The government said the project is part of its effort to improve healthcare capacity and public services in southern Thailand.
Officials will also hold discussions with Malaysia concerning measures to protect Thai workers, adding a cross-border dimension to the government’s social-development agenda.
AI to support border security
Technology is another important component of the new package.
Thailand plans to improve local security networks, strengthen security infrastructure and introduce artificial intelligence technology for safety management and border operations.
The government believes greater use of data and technology can help authorities respond more effectively to security challenges while improving coordination between relevant agencies.
142 million baht allocated for disaster preparedness
The Cabinet has approved 142 million baht for urgent disaster-prevention and mitigation measures.
The funding will support temporary shelters in Pattani, improvements to drainage systems in Hat Yai and Khuan Lang municipalities, and work connected with the Khlong Rian flood-retention reservoir.
The move comes as Thailand continues to strengthen its ability to manage flooding and other natural hazards.
Nationwide disaster insurance plan
In another significant decision, the government approved a nationwide disaster insurance system covering 30 million households.
The proposed system is intended to provide faster and higher compensation to people affected by disasters including floods, storms and earthquakes.
The government said the initiative is designed to strengthen household resilience and provide greater financial protection after major natural events.
Thailand combines economic growth with resilience
The four priorities demonstrate the government’s attempt to address several challenges simultaneously—from regional economic development and healthcare to security and disaster preparedness.
With investment in southern infrastructure, new financial support, AI-based security measures and expanded disaster protection, Bangkok is seeking to combine economic growth with stronger public resilience.
The measures will now move to implementation by the relevant government agencies.
