Washington: A high-level meeting between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping has concluded without a major breakthrough on some of the most difficult issues shaping relations between Washington and Beijing.

The talks were closely watched internationally because the United States and China remain deeply connected through trade and investment while simultaneously competing over technology, security and geopolitical influence.
