U.S. Police Arrest Second Suspect in 2019 Fatal Shooting in Houston

Houston, Texas | September 1 Authorities in Houston, Texas, have arrested a second suspect in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred more than seven years ago, highlighting how investigators continue to pursue unresolved violent-crime cases long after the original incident.

According to the Houston Police Department (HPD), Andre Lamont Lewis Jr., 33, has been arrested and charged with capital murder in connection with the January 2019 killing of 44-year-old Terry Clark. The arrest came after a Harris County grand jury returned a capital murder indictment earlier this month.

Fatal Shooting Reported in January 2019

The case dates back to the early hours of January 29, 2019, when Houston police received information about gunshots at an apartment located at 6633 West Airport Boulevard.

Officers investigating the incident found Terry Clark deceased inside his apartment. According to information released by HPD, witnesses reported hearing gunfire at approximately 12:30 a.m. They also told investigators that two Black males were seen running away from the victim’s apartment shortly after the shooting.

The two suspects reportedly escaped in a white SUV, giving investigators an important lead in the early stages of the investigation.

Clark, who was 44 years old, was the only victim identified in the case. Police subsequently launched a homicide investigation to determine who was responsible for the killing and what had led to the shooting.

Investigation Identified Two Suspects

As investigators continued working on the case, they identified Trevon Demitri Lewis as one of the suspects.

Trevon Lewis was not arrested immediately after the 2019 shooting. According to the Houston Police Department, he was eventually charged in September 2025, more than six years after Clark’s death.

His arrest was carried out by members of the HPD South Gessner Patrol Division’s Crime Suppression Team together with the U.S. Marshals Service. He was subsequently booked into the Harris County Jail.

The case therefore remained active even after one suspect had been identified and arrested. Detectives continued investigating the second person believed to have been involved in the fatal shooting.

Second Suspect Indicted in September 2026

The investigation took another significant step this month.

On September 3, 2026, a Harris County grand jury issued a capital murder indictment for Andre Lamont Lewis Jr., according to HPD.

Four days later, on September 9, Lewis was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force. He was then booked into the Harris County Jail.

Lewis is now facing the same serious charge as Trevon Demitri Lewis in connection with Clark’s death.

Seven-Year-Old Case Moves Forward

The arrest demonstrates the continuing efforts of homicide investigators to pursue older cases and identify people allegedly responsible for serious violent crimes.

More than seven years passed between the January 2019 shooting and the latest arrest. During that period, investigators continued to develop information surrounding the case.

Although the original shooting occurred in 2019, the case has remained part of the police department’s homicide investigations. The recent indictment and arrest mean that both suspects named by investigators are now facing capital murder charges in connection with Clark’s death.

The Houston Police Department’s September 10 crime bulletin lists the case as an updated investigation into the fatal shooting at 6633 West Airport Boulevard. The department identified both Andre Lamont Lewis Jr. and Trevon Demitri Lewis as suspects charged with capital murder in the 337th Criminal District Court.

What Happened on the Night of the Shooting?

According to the police account, the shooting happened shortly after midnight.

Witnesses reported hearing gunshots at approximately 12:30 a.m. They subsequently saw two men leaving the victim’s apartment. The suspects were reported to have fled in a white SUV.

Police found Clark dead inside the apartment.

Investigators then began examining witness information and other evidence to establish who was responsible. The identification of Trevon Lewis and, later, Andre Lewis eventually led to criminal charges in the case.

Authorities have not publicly disclosed every piece of evidence that led investigators to the two suspects. As the case moves through the court system, additional details could emerge through court proceedings and filings.

Both Suspects Face Capital Murder Charges

The charges filed against both men are extremely serious.

Trevon Demitri Lewis, 29, was previously charged in connection with the case and was arrested in 2025. Andre Lamont Lewis Jr., 33, was indicted by a Harris County grand jury on September 3, 2026, and arrested six days later. Both are charged with capital murder in the 337th Criminal District Court.

A criminal charge, however, is an allegation and does not mean that the accused has been found guilty. The defendants are entitled to due process, and the prosecution must establish their guilt in court.

Investigation Remains Important for Victim’s Family

For families of homicide victims, arrests years after a killing can represent an important development in a case that may have remained unresolved for a long period.
