Union Cabinet Greenlights Rs. 70,125 Crore for Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana – IV to Boost Rural Connectivity
New Delhi, September 11, 2024: The Union Cabinet, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has given its approval for the implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana – IV (PMGSY-IV) for the fiscal years 2024-25 to 2028-29. This significant decision will see an investment of Rs. 70,125 crore, aimed at improving rural connectivity across India.
Overview of the Scheme
PMGSY-IV is set to address the connectivity challenges faced by remote and underserved regions. The scheme’s primary focus is to provide all-weather road access to 25,000 habitations that currently lack adequate road infrastructure. The initiative will cover 62,500 kilometers of new road construction and the upgrading of existing roads, including the construction of necessary bridges.

1. Financial Details: The total outlay for PMGSY-IV stands at Rs. 70,125 crore. This includes a central share of Rs. 49,087.50 crore and a state share of Rs. 21,037.50 crore.
2. Coverage: The scheme will target 25,000 unconnected habitations with populations of 500 or more in plain areas, 250 or more in North-Eastern and Hill States/UTs, and 100 or more in Left-Wing Extremism (LWE) affected districts. The selection criteria are based on the Census 2011 data.
3. Road and Bridge Construction: The project will facilitate the construction of 62,500 kilometers of all-weather roads. Additionally, it will include the construction of bridges required to ensure connectivity along these routes.
