🇬🇧 Five Arrested Near RAF Fairford in Suspected Terrorist Plot Investigation
September British counter-terrorism police are investigating a suspected terrorist plot after five men were arrested near RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire, a military airbase used by U.S. forces.

The arrests followed a report shortly after midnight on September 27 about three suspicious vehicles apparently travelling towards the airbase. Armed police responded and detained five men in the nearby Whelford area.
Explosives Investigation
Police initially arrested the men on suspicion of offences under the Explosives Act. They were subsequently arrested on suspicion of preparing a terrorist act under Section 5 of the UK’s Terrorism Act.
The investigation remains at an early stage, and police have not publicly identified the suspects, disclosed their nationalities or confirmed a motive.
Three Vehicles Examined
Army explosive-ordnance specialists were deployed to examine the three vehicles.
A 400-metre cordon was established around the vehicles while specialists assessed the potential threat. Authorities also evacuated approximately 85 households in the surrounding area as a precaution.
A nearby leisure centre was opened as a temporary safe location for residents who could not return to their homes.
RAF Fairford’s Strategic Importance
RAF Fairford hosts U.S. Air Force personnel and has been used by American aircraft during military operations involving Iran.
Because of the base’s connection to U.S. military operations, investigators are examining a number of possible explanations for the incident. British authorities have not confirmed that Iran was responsible or that the suspects have any connection with Iran.
Reports that counter-terrorism investigators are examining a possible Iranian link remain an investigative line rather than an established conclusion.
Police Urge Public Not to Speculate
Counter Terrorism Policing said investigators are working with Gloucestershire Police and other agencies to establish what happened.
Authorities have urged members of the public not to speculate while evidence is being examined. The five men remained in custody as investigators continued their work.
Investigation Continues
The incident has prompted a significant security response around RAF Fairford, but police said the situation was contained.
Investigators are now examining the vehicles, questioning the suspects and gathering information about their movements and possible connections. Until that investigation is completed, the circumstances and intended target of the suspected operation remain subject to further determination.
