Toronto Investigates Fatal North York Crash as Two Men Die
Two men have died following an early-morning single-vehicle crash in Toronto’s North York district, with police now investigating whether speed or impairment may have contributed to the collision.

The crash happened shortly after 4:30 a.m. Saturday near Finch Avenue West and Romfield Lane, just west of Keele Street. Police said the vehicle left its course and struck a traffic-light pole.
Emergency responders attempted life-saving measures at the scene, but both occupants were pronounced dead. Police identified them as a 39-year-old driver and a 42-year-old passenger.
Investigators have not yet determined the precise cause of the crash. Speed and possible impairment are among the factors being examined as officers work to reconstruct what happened in the moments before the vehicle struck the pole.
The collision also caused a temporary disruption to Toronto’s transit network. A portion of the Line 6 Finch West LRT was closed between Finch West and Tobermory stations while investigators worked at the scene, with shuttle buses arranged for affected passengers.
Police are expected to continue examining the vehicle, roadway and surrounding circumstances as part of the investigation. Witness information and other available evidence could help authorities establish the events leading to the fatal collision.
The crash serves as another reminder of the potentially devastating consequences of high-speed or impaired driving, particularly during overnight and early-morning hours.
Authorities have not announced any charges at this stage. The investigation remains active, and additional information may be released as police establish the full circumstances of the incident.
