China and Jordan Discuss Middle East Crisis and Palestinian Issue in Beijing
BEIJING, August 25, 2026 — Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks with Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi in Beijing, with the Middle East crisis and the Palestinian issue high on the diplomatic agenda.
Safadi was in China as part of King Abdullah II’s state visit. The meeting came at a time of heightened regional tensions, with both countries emphasizing the importance of diplomacy and efforts to restore stability in the Middle East.
China Stresses Importance of Palestinian Issue
During the discussions, Wang Yi described the regional situation as complex and serious. China reiterated its position that the Palestinian question remains central to the broader Middle East issue and should not be sidelined.
Beijing also called for continued communication among the parties and efforts toward a lasting ceasefire in Gaza. China has repeatedly advocated resolving regional disputes through political and diplomatic channels rather than prolonged confrontation.
Wang said China would continue working with Arab countries to promote peace and stability in the region. The message reflects Beijing’s broader diplomatic push for de-escalation and negotiations amid continuing instability.
Jordan Welcomes China’s Role
Safadi expressed Jordan’s appreciation for China’s position on Middle East issues, particularly its support for a two-state solution to the Palestinian question.
Jordan has maintained close diplomatic engagement with regional and international partners as it seeks to support efforts aimed at reducing tensions and advancing a political settlement to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
The two countries also discussed strengthening bilateral relations. Chinese officials have described Jordan as an important Middle Eastern partner and said Beijing supports Amman’s sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity.
King Abdullah’s China Visit Adds Wider Context
The Wang-Safadi meeting took place during King Abdullah II’s state visit to China. Chinese officials had previously said the visit would focus on bilateral relations as well as international and regional issues of common interest.
China’s Foreign Ministry said the visit was expected to help deepen political trust, expand mutually beneficial cooperation and strengthen coordination between the two countries.
The visit also highlights the growing importance of China-Jordan relations. Both sides have expressed interest in expanding cooperation across multiple areas while maintaining political coordination on regional questions.
Focus on Dialogue and Regional Stability
The Beijing talks underline the increasingly important diplomatic role China seeks to play in Middle Eastern affairs. Beijing has recently called on regional parties to reduce tensions and return to dialogue and negotiations.
