Ganjam Cyber Police Bust Alleged Online Betting Fraud Network, Three Arrested
Ganjam, Odisha — September 21, 2026:
Cybercrime investigators in Odisha’s Ganjam district have uncovered an alleged online betting fraud network, arresting three people and seizing a large collection of mobile phones, SIM cards, bank cards and financial documents.

Police said the suspects allegedly attracted people with promises of high returns through online betting platforms and collected money through digital channels. The investigation is now expanding as authorities examine the financial and electronic evidence recovered during raids.
Three Arrested in Cybercrime Operation
The arrested suspects have been identified as Satrughna Kumar Pandey of Jharkhand, Dharmadas Manikpuri of Chhattisgarh and Jagadish Sethi alias Suraj.
According to police, information about suspected online betting activity led investigators to rented properties in the Gajapati Nagar and Palurgada areas under Rambha police limits.
Cyber Police subsequently carried out raids at the locations. Two suspects were initially apprehended, while two others allegedly escaped during the operation. Investigators later traced Jagadish Sethi through mobile-phone information and arrested him in the Chamakhandi area.
Huge Collection of SIM Cards and Bank Cards Seized
The scale of the digital and financial material allegedly recovered has become a major focus of the investigation.

Police said the operation resulted in the seizure of:
- 86 SIM cards
- 78 ATM, debit and other cards
- 16 bank passbooks
- 14 smartphones
- Two laptops
- One Chromebook
- One motorcycle
- Various financial and identity documents
Investigators also reportedly found PAN and Aadhaar details, bank-account information and other personal data belonging to different individuals on the seized devices.
Betting Platform Credentials Under Investigation
Police said the seized devices contained user IDs, passwords and transaction information allegedly connected with several online gaming and betting platforms.
Investigators are examining this information to establish how the alleged operation functioned, who controlled the accounts and where money collected through the network ultimately went.
The presence of numerous SIM cards, payment cards and bank documents has also prompted investigators to examine whether additional people or accounts were connected to the suspected operation.
Investigation Moves Toward the Financial Trail
The case is now moving beyond the initial arrests.
Cyber investigators are reportedly examining the seized electronic devices for evidence that could reveal the network’s communications, transaction history and links with people in other locations.
A particularly important part of the investigation will be determining whether the bank accounts and identity documents found during the raids belonged to the suspects or were being used on behalf of other individuals.
The use of numerous financial instruments can make cyber-enabled fraud investigations more complicated because money may pass through multiple accounts before reaching the individuals controlling an operation.
Interstate Links Under Examination
The case also has an interstate dimension because the three arrested individuals are reported to be from Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Odisha.

Police are investigating whether the Ganjam operation was part of a larger network extending beyond the district.
The digital evidence could potentially help investigators identify additional operators, account holders, recruiters or people involved in handling payments.
Case Registered
A case was registered on September 19, 2026, following a complaint by Inspector-in-Charge Priyanka Behera.
Police have sent the seized digital equipment for forensic examination. Investigators are expected to determine the scale of the alleged operation, identify additional suspects and establish the volume of financial transactions associated with it.
The investigation remains underway, and the allegations against the arrested individuals will be subject to the legal process.
Why the Case Matters
The Ganjam investigation illustrates how online betting-related cases can overlap with broader cybercrime and financial-fraud investigations.
What initially appears to be an online betting operation can involve multiple digital identities, bank accounts, SIM cards and payment channels. Recovering and analysing these interconnected records can help investigators reconstruct the movement of money and identify people operating behind digital accounts.
For authorities, the next stage will be determining whether the three arrested suspects represent the entire operation or only one part of a wider network.
