Germany’s Most-Wanted Drug Trafficker Arrested in Spain After Five-Year Manhunt
Berlin/Málaga, German authorities have scored a major breakthrough against an alleged international drug-trafficking network after one of Germany’s most-wanted suspected drug traffickers was arrested in Málaga, Spain, following a five-year period on the run.
Spanish National Police, working with Germany’s Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) and under the direction of Spain’s National Court, arrested the fugitive in Málaga. He had been wanted under a European Arrest Warrant on allegations involving drug trafficking and participation in a criminal organization.
According to investigators, the suspect had previously lived in Spain, where the criminal organization he allegedly led operated a warehouse used to load large quantities of drugs onto trucks bound for Germany through France. Authorities say the investigation began in 2025 after information emerged suggesting that the fugitive could be hiding in Spain.
The suspect reportedly went to considerable lengths to avoid detection. Police said he changed his telephone number approximately every two weeks and allegedly changed his identity every three months.
Investigators also said he had previously completed a cybersecurity course in Turkey, which authorities believe may have helped him understand techniques for reducing his digital trace across devices, operating systems and social-media platforms.
The investigation eventually focused on the suspect’s brother. Spanish officers conducted surveillance and followed leads across several provinces before establishing that the wanted man was travelling as a passenger in his brother’s vehicle in Málaga.
Police arrested him on August 24, bringing an end to the years-long manhunt. He was subsequently brought before Spain’s National Court and placed in custody.
Authorities described the suspect as an experienced boxer and mixed martial arts practitioner. His alleged criminal network is accused of transporting substantial quantities of drugs into Germany, making the arrest an important development in efforts to disrupt cross-border organized crime.
The operation also highlights the growing cooperation between European law-enforcement agencies in tracking fugitives who move between countries to evade arrest.
Investigators are continuing to examine the suspect’s alleged role in the criminal organization and its international drug-trafficking activities. The allegations remain subject to judicial proceedings.
