Lucknow, September 7, 2026: A Uttar Pradesh Police head constable has been taken into custody in Lucknow after his wife was allegedly killed during a domestic dispute at their rented residence, police and family members said.

The incident took place in the Paper Mill area of Mahanagar, where the couple had been living with their young child. The accused, identified as Himanshu Srivastava, is a 2011-batch head constable who was posted with the police department’s Right to Information cell in Lucknow.

According to the preliminary account, Himanshu and his wife, Rashmi Srivastava, had an argument on Sunday. The dispute allegedly escalated, after which Rashmi sustained a serious head injury from a heavy iron object. She died at the residence.

Police were alerted after concerns grew over Rashmi’s whereabouts. Her brother and other family members reportedly reached the house and found her body inside. The accused was also present at the premises when police arrived.

Investigators subsequently took Himanshu into custody and registered a murder case following a complaint from Rashmi’s family. Police are questioning him to establish the circumstances surrounding the death and determine what led to the confrontation.

The case has also brought forward allegations from Rashmi’s relatives concerning earlier problems within the marriage. Her brother claimed that she had faced harassment in the past and alleged that there had previously been an attempt to harm her. These claims remain part of the investigation and have not yet been established in court.

Police officials said forensic evidence from the scene is being examined as part of the investigation. The body was sent for post-mortem examination, while officers are working to reconstruct the events that preceded the fatal assault.

The couple had married in 2015 and had a one-year-old son. The child’s presence has added another dimension to the case, with authorities also expected to examine arrangements concerning his care.

Officials have not yet publicly established a definitive motive for the alleged killing. Further details are expected as investigators question the accused, examine forensic evidence and record statements from family members and other witnesses.

The incident has drawn attention in Lucknow because the accused himself was serving as a police personnel, while the investigation now focuses on determining the exact sequence of events and the circumstances that led to Rashmi’s death.
