New Settler Attack on Palestinian Home Raises Tensions in West Bank’s Qusra
QUSRA, West Bank, August 29, 2026: Tensions escalated again in the occupied West Bank village of Qusra on Saturday after dozens of masked Israeli settlers attacked Palestinian homes, according to witnesses and local residents.
The latest incident came only weeks after several Palestinian families in the area were subjected to a prolonged siege by settlers, which triggered international criticism and increased the presence of Israeli security forces.
Palestinians Trapped Inside Home
Witnesses told Reuters that settlers surrounded a Palestinian home while seven people were inside. Stones were thrown at the property as those inside waited for help.
The homeowner, Luay Bayrudi, said he and the others had contacted Israeli security forces after becoming trapped. He later showed a Reuters reporter an injured arm, saying it had been struck by a stone during the attack. Another resident, Saddam Oday, said tear gas was fired into the house after security forces arrived.
Oday, who works as a medic, said several people suffered injuries, including injuries he attributed to tear gas and stones. Bayrudi also alleged that soldiers handcuffed and blindfolded people inside the property before releasing them. Reuters reported that the Israeli military did not immediately respond to questions about those allegations.
Israeli Military Says Forces Intervened
The Israeli military said troops and border police were sent to Qusra after reports of violent clashes involving stone throwing. According to the military, security personnel moved to remove the settlers from the house, separate the two groups and protect the Palestinian residents.
The military also said vehicles believed to have been used by the settlers were confiscated and handed over for a police investigation.
The differing accounts of what happened after security forces arrived have added to tensions surrounding the incident.
Qusra Has Faced Weeks of Pressure
Saturday’s confrontation occurred close to three Palestinian homes that were surrounded by settlers earlier in August. Residents have described severe restrictions on movement and difficulty obtaining basic supplies.
The United Nations has previously reported that families in the Qusra area faced restrictions affecting access to their homes, while infrastructure such as water and electricity had also been disrupted.
The latest attack therefore comes against a backdrop of continuing disputes over land, settlements and access in the area.
Wider Concern Over Settler Violence
The Qusra incident is part of a broader pattern of violence involving Israeli settlers and Palestinians in the West Bank. UN humanitarian reporting says more than 1,040 Palestinians have been injured in settler attacks since the beginning of 2026, while dozens of incidents involving casualties or property damage were recorded during August.
The continuing violence has intensified concerns about the security of Palestinian communities and the prospects for stability in the occupied territory.
Israel maintains that its security forces act to prevent violence and restore order, while Palestinian residents and rights groups have repeatedly accused authorities of failing to adequately protect them from settler attacks.
The renewed violence in Qusra is likely to keep international attention focused on the West Bank, where disputes over land and settlement expansion remain among the most sensitive issues in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
