Russian Airstrike Hits Kyiv’s Northern Bridge, Disrupting Major City Traffic
Kyiv, Ukraine: A Russian air attack struck Kyiv’s Northern Bridge over the Dnipro River on Saturday, damaging the roadway and trolleybus infrastructure and forcing authorities to suspend traffic across the important crossing. No casualties were reported from the bridge strike.

Emergency crews were sent to the scene after the attack, while municipal authorities assessed the damage and worked to manage the resulting transport disruption.
The Northern Bridge is an important connection between Kyiv’s eastern and western areas. Its closure has created additional pressure on the city’s road network, particularly because another major crossing, the Southern Bridge, had already been affected by repeated drone strikes in the preceding days.
The latest incident has therefore added to an increasingly difficult transportation situation in the Ukrainian capital. Residents travelling between the two sides of the Dnipro have been forced to use alternative routes, contributing to congestion on other crossings.
The damage reportedly includes the bridge’s road surface and overhead cables used by trolleybuses. Public transport services have consequently faced disruptions, with authorities redirecting some routes through alternative crossings.
The attack follows several strikes on Kyiv’s bridge infrastructure. Earlier attacks affected the Southern Bridge and prompted restrictions on other Dnipro crossings. The repeated disruptions have complicated daily travel for residents who depend on the bridges to reach workplaces, government offices and other essential services.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko has described the situation as serious as authorities assess the security and transport risks facing the capital.
The bridge attacks are taking place during a broader escalation of Russian aerial attacks on Ukrainian cities and infrastructure. Other recent strikes have caused damage to residential and commercial facilities, while Ukrainian authorities continue to strengthen air-defence measures.
The transport disruption has a particularly significant effect on Kyiv because large numbers of residents live on the eastern side of the Dnipro while many government institutions and businesses are concentrated on the western side.
Ukrainian authorities are now focused on assessing the Northern Bridge and determining when traffic can safely resume. Until then, commuters are being directed toward alternative routes.
The latest strike has turned Kyiv’s normally busy river crossings into a major transport and security challenge. With attacks affecting multiple bridges within a matter of days, the immediate concern is restoring safe movement across the capital while protecting infrastructure that millions of residents rely on for their daily lives.
