Two Men Arrested in Spain Over Suspected Series of 14 Home Burglaries
Alicante, Spain — Spanish police have arrested two men who are allegedly linked to a series of residential burglaries across several towns in Alicante province.
The investigation began after an elderly woman reported that her home had been broken into and that valuables including jewelry, cash, watches, cameras and electronic equipment had been stolen.
Investigators from the Alicante Provincial Police identified two men, aged 49 and 68, who allegedly travelled between different towns in the province while targeting residential properties.
According to investigators, the suspects allegedly used different roles during the burglaries. One man would enter a property while the other remained outside, monitoring the building and surrounding area and maintaining telephone contact with his alleged accomplice.
Police eventually located and arrested both men in separate operations in Alicante and Rafal.
During searches of their properties, officers reportedly recovered jewelry, perfumes, sunglasses and other objects believed to have been taken during burglaries. Police also seized various tools allegedly used to gain entry into homes.
Investigators say the pair have so far been linked to at least 14 alleged residential burglaries. Seven of the reported incidents occurred in Alicante, five in Elche, one in Elda and another in Villena.
Police believe the investigation may not be finished. Detectives are examining whether the two suspects could be connected to additional burglaries in other parts of Alicante province.
The case highlights concerns over organized residential burglary, particularly crimes in which offenders allegedly observe residents’ movements before entering properties.
Following their arrests, the suspects were brought before the investigating court in Alicante as authorities continued the legal proceedings.
Police have not described the suspects as convicted criminals. They remain presumed innocent unless proven guilty by a court.
Authorities are continuing to examine the evidence and determine the full extent of the alleged burglary network.
