Two Men Charged After Serious Street Assault in New Zealand’s Queenstown

Queenstown, New Zealand — September 2, 2026: Two men have been arrested and charged following a serious street assault in Queenstown that left a victim with injuries requiring continued medical treatment.

The incident took place in the early hours of August 25 near the entrance of the Crew Room Bar on Ballarat Street, according to New Zealand Police.

Police said the victim was repeatedly assaulted during the incident and suffered serious injuries. The nature of the injuries was significant enough to require ongoing medical attention.

Following an investigation, officers arrested two men in connection with the attack.

A 29-year-old man has been charged with assault with intent to injure. A second man, aged 31, faces a more serious charge of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

Both men are due to appear again at Queenstown District Court on October 19.

Detectives are still seeking additional information about what happened. Police have released a photograph of a man they believe may have witnessed the assault and are asking him, or anyone who knows his identity, to come forward.

Investigators are also appealing for video recordings that could help establish the sequence of events. Police have specifically asked members of the public to provide mobile-phone footage or material that may have been uploaded to social media.

The investigation remains active, and authorities have not indicated that the arrests mark the end of their inquiries.
