Two Police Vehicles Set Ablaze in France as Authorities Launch Investigation
Saint-Martin-d’Hères, France — French authorities have opened an investigation after two municipal police vehicles were deliberately set on fire at a municipal technical facility in Saint-Martin-d’Hères, near Grenoble.
The incident occurred during the early hours of Wednesday, September 2, at a city services site on Avenue Jean-Jaurès. According to local reports, the fire was discovered shortly after 3 a.m. after unknown individuals allegedly sprayed fuel onto several vehicles belonging to the municipal police.
Two of the marked police vehicles caught fire and were damaged. A third vehicle was found with traces of fuel on its exterior but had not caught fire.
The flames also spread to a minibus used to transport people with disabilities. The vehicle suffered partial damage in the incident.
National police officers attended the location and carried out initial examinations of the scene. Investigators have opened a criminal inquiry to establish who was responsible and determine the circumstances surrounding the attack.
At this stage, authorities have not publicly identified any suspects or established a confirmed motive. Investigators are expected to examine evidence from the scene and look for possible surveillance footage or witness accounts that could help identify those involved.
The targeting of municipal police vehicles has raised concerns because the vehicles were located inside a city-operated technical facility rather than on a public street.
