Two Suspects Remanded in Custody After Deadly Nightclub Shooting in Guayaquil
Guayaquil, Ecuador: Two people have been placed in pretrial detention following a shooting at a nightclub in northern Guayaquil that left four people dead and at least nine others injured, according to Ecuadorian authorities and local reporting.

The attack occurred at a commercial establishment in the La Alborada area, where several people were inside when gunfire broke out. Witnesses reported hearing multiple shots as the incident unfolded.
Police and emergency personnel responded to the scene and found several victims suffering from gunshot wounds. Four men died in the attack, while at least nine other people were injured and required medical attention.
Authorities moved quickly to identify those allegedly involved. Investigators carried out five raids and arrested two suspects within 24 hours of the shooting.
The detainees were identified by local authorities as a 22-year-old woman and a 41-year-old man. A judge subsequently ordered their pretrial detention while prosecutors continue building the case.
Investigators believe the shooting could be connected to a confrontation involving rival criminal organizations operating in the Guayaquil area. Police are examining surveillance-camera footage and other evidence to reconstruct the movements of the suspected attackers before and after the shooting.
During the operations, authorities reportedly seized a motorcycle and a car believed to be connected with the incident. Police also recovered two firearms, 20 rounds of 9mm ammunition, suspected controlled substances and four mobile phones.
The arrests are part of a broader security effort in Guayaquil, where authorities continue to investigate violent crimes linked to organized criminal groups. Police are still searching for possible additional suspects and working to determine the exact motive behind the attack.
The two detained individuals have not been convicted. They remain presumed innocent unless their guilt is established by a court.
The investigation remains active, with authorities continuing to examine forensic evidence, surveillance recordings and possible links between the suspects and criminal organizations.
