UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan issued the decision establishing the programme on August 30, 2026, according to the UAE Government’s official platform.

Focus on advanced scientific capabilities

The new programme is designed to strengthen the UAE’s capabilities in advanced scientific fields and technologies. It forms part of the country’s wider effort to develop knowledge-based sectors and prepare for emerging technological opportunities.

The initiative is expected to support national priorities involving scientific research, innovation and the development of advanced solutions for future challenges.

Technology remains a major government priority

The announcement comes as the UAE continues to expand its digital and technology infrastructure.

Recent government initiatives have included efforts to increase the use of artificial intelligence, digital identity systems and advanced digital government services. The official UAE Government platform lists AI and digital transformation among key areas of the country’s future development agenda.

The UAE has also positioned advanced sciences as an important component of its longer-term national planning. Its National Advanced Sciences Agenda 2031 is aimed at using advanced sciences to develop solutions to future challenges.

Building a knowledge-based economy

The new programme could further support the UAE’s ambition to diversify its economy beyond traditional sectors and increase the contribution of science, technology and innovation.

Investment in advanced research can also help create opportunities for highly skilled professionals, technology companies, universities and research institutions.

Part of a wider long-term vision

The initiative fits within the UAE’s broader development plans extending toward UAE Centennial 2071.

The government has increasingly focused on future technologies, scientific research and digital services as tools for improving economic competitiveness and public-sector efficiency.

The establishment of the National Programme for Advanced Sciences and Technologies therefore represents another step in the UAE’s effort to strengthen its position as a regional centre for innovation and advanced technology.
