Bangladesh: Dhaka Police Arrest 476 People in Major Anti-Crime Drive
Dhaka, September 11, 2026: Police in Bangladesh’s capital Dhaka arrested 476 people within 24 hours as part of a large-scale anti-crime operation conducted across different areas of the city.
According to the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), the operation also resulted in the filing of 39 cases. Police teams carried out raids and checks across multiple police station jurisdictions as part of their regular crime-control campaign.
Large Quantity of Drugs Seized
During the operation, police recovered 36.29 kilograms of cannabis, along with 92 bottles of phensedyl, 143 yaba tablets and 10 grams of heroin.
Authorities also seized a foreign-made pistol, two rounds of ammunition and a magazine during the crackdown.
Arrests Across Major Dhaka Areas
The largest number of arrests was reported from the Mirpur Division, where 122 people were detained.
Police also reported:
- 70 arrests in Tejgaon
- 69 arrests in Motijheel
- 62 arrests in Wari
- 48 arrests each in Gulshan and Uttara
- 29 arrests in Lalbagh
- 27 arrests in Ramna
- 1 arrest by the Detective Branch
The figures cover the 24-hour period identified by DMP in its September 10 statement.
Other Items Recovered
Besides narcotics and firearms, police recovered seven mobile phones, a yaba-use pipe, two pieces of foil paper and three gas lighters.
Officers also seized 200 elastic belts and Tk 8,400 in cash during the operations.
Legal Proceedings Underway
Police said legal proceedings have been initiated against the arrested individuals. Investigators are expected to examine the cases to determine the alleged involvement of those detained and whether further action is required.
The operation forms part of Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s continuing efforts to combat drug trafficking, illegal weapons and other criminal activity across the capital.
