Five Killed After Dilapidated School Boundary Wall Collapses in Karachi
Karachi, Pakistan — September Five people were killed and two others seriously injured after a deteriorating boundary wall of a government school collapsed in Karachi’s Orangi Town, raising fresh concerns about the safety of students attending the institution.

The incident occurred near Football Chowrangi in Sector 11, Block L. Rescue teams from Edhi and Chhipa, along with police and local residents, rushed to the site after the wall came down.
Seven people were reportedly trapped beneath the debris. Rescue workers managed to pull all of them out and transported the injured to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
Five people lose their lives
Five of the victims were pronounced dead after being recovered from the rubble, while two others suffered serious injuries.
One of the deceased was identified as 22-year-old Shahzaib. Authorities were working to establish the identities of the remaining victims.
According to the initial police assessment, the people beneath the wall were allegedly attempting to remove iron rods from the deteriorated structure when it collapsed. The circumstances surrounding their presence at the site remain part of the investigation.
School serves around 450 students
The incident has caused particular concern because the collapsed structure forms part of the boundary of a government school attended by approximately 450 boys and girls.
Local residents said sections of the entire boundary wall had visible cracks and had deteriorated over time. They claimed that concerns about the condition of the structure had previously been brought to the attention of the relevant authorities.
The collapse has renewed calls for an immediate inspection of the remaining wall and other parts of the school premises.
Residents demand urgent repairs
People living in the area have urged authorities to remove dangerous portions of the boundary and repair the structure before another accident occurs.
Residents also raised concerns about activities taking place in the area behind the school, saying the location had become a gathering point for drug users.
Authorities are expected to assess the condition of the remaining structure and determine what measures are required to protect students and people living nearby.
The incident has highlighted the risks posed by neglected public infrastructure in densely populated parts of Karachi, particularly where schools and residential communities share space with ageing structures.
