Mumbai Local Train Services Hit by Sunday Mega Blocks
Mumbai, India: Mumbai’s suburban railway network is facing disruptions as scheduled maintenance blocks affect local train services across several routes. Passengers travelling on Sunday have been advised to check revised schedules and allow additional time for their journeys.

Central Railway is carrying out engineering and maintenance work on its Main, Harbour and Trans-Harbour lines. The work is resulting in cancellations, diversions and changes to the normal stopping patterns of several local trains.
On the Main Line, slow-line services between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) and Vidyavihar are affected during the main block period. Several slow trains are being diverted onto fast lines, meaning they may skip some stations that normally receive slow-local services.
The Harbour Line is also experiencing major changes. Services between Panvel and Vashi are suspended during the scheduled block, while a number of Panvel–CSMT services have been cancelled. Railway authorities are operating alternative CSMT–Vashi services to reduce the impact on commuters.
Passengers using the Trans-Harbour Line are also affected, particularly on the Panvel–Thane section. However, services between Thane and Vashi/Nerul continue to provide an alternative for some commuters.
Western Railway is separately undertaking a four-hour jumbo block between Borivali and Ram Mandir for maintenance work involving railway infrastructure. Some suburban services are therefore being cancelled or diverted during the affected period.
The maintenance work is intended to support the long-term safety and reliability of Mumbai’s heavily used suburban railway network. Track, signalling and other railway infrastructure require regular inspection and engineering work, although such operations can temporarily create significant difficulties for daily commuters.
The disruption is particularly important for passengers travelling between Mumbai’s central suburbs and the city centre, as well as commuters connecting Mumbai with Navi Mumbai. Travellers have been advised to consider alternative trains and other public transport options where practical.
Railway authorities have urged passengers to check the latest service information before beginning their journeys rather than relying on the normal Sunday timetable.
Mumbai’s local trains carry a huge number of passengers every day and remain one of the city’s most important forms of public transportation. Even temporary engineering blocks can therefore have a noticeable impact on road traffic, station crowds and travel times.
The railway maintenance programme is expected to continue affecting selected services during the designated block periods, after which normal operations are scheduled to resume.
