Bangladesh: 65 Foreign Nationals Detained in Suspected Online Scam Probe

Chattogram, Bangladesh | September 11, 2026: Police in Bangladesh have detained 65 foreign nationals during a raid in Chattogram’s Khulshi area as part of an investigation into a suspected online-scamming operation.

The raid was conducted on September 10 after the Chattogram Metropolitan Police’s Cyber Crime Unit had been investigating the suspected operation. Police said the detainees include nationals from China, Pakistan, Laos and several other countries.

133 Electronic Devices Seized

During the operation, authorities seized 68 laptops and 65 mobile phones, taking the total number of electronic devices recovered to 133.

Investigators are examining data stored on the devices to determine whether the individuals were involved in online fraud and to identify the possible structure of the suspected operation.

Police Yet to Confirm Everyone’s Involvement

Police officials have made it clear that the detention of all 65 people does not mean that every individual has been confirmed as a participant in cybercrime.

Khulshi Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Abdur Rahim said authorities would first examine information recovered from the seized laptops and phones. Individuals found to have been involved in online scams could subsequently face legal action.

Cyber Experts Assisting Investigation

Cybercrime specialists are assisting police with the examination of the seized devices and digital information. Investigators are looking for evidence that could establish how the suspected operation functioned, who was coordinating it and whether additional people or locations are connected to the case.

Police said the cybercrime unit had been working on the matter for an extended period before carrying out the raid.

The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities are expected to release additional details after verification of the evidence.
