BERN: Swiss authorities are increasing monitoring and preventive measures in parts of the Alps as geological instability continues to pose risks to roads, settlements and mountain infrastructure.
Specialists have been examining unstable slopes and rock formations in several Alpine areas following recent incidents involving falling rocks and shifting terrain.
The latest assessments are part of Switzerland’s wider effort to manage natural hazards in mountainous regions. Authorities routinely use geological surveys, sensors and observation systems to identify areas where sudden rockfalls or landslides could occur.
